Should a war between Russia and Ukraine not be enough, the world is now witnessing a war between Israel and Palestine. What makes this war particularly repugnant, is the religious motivation behind it. The territorial expansion of the state of Israel is justified by the promises made to the people of Israel in the Old Testament, and resistance to this expansion is justified through Jihad. Whereas only Muslims are persuaded by calls of Jihad, it is not only Jews who accept the Zionist project. Bible verses like Genesis 12:3, “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed”, are coupled with the mistaken view that the Old Covenant is still in effect, as well as many Protestant’s desire for something more ancient, make for a sloppy, but popular Zionistic case amongst American Christians. Deeply saddened by the current war, but unable to effect the intricate political, and financial ties, behind American support for the state of Israel, I might be able to demonstrate that the Church is the continuation of Israel, that the Old Covenant is not still in effect, and to believe otherwise is to twist Holy Writ, and to undermine the work of the Incarnation. By demonstrating these points, part of the motivation behind the Zionistic project, which has led to much persecution and suffering, will cease, and the possibility for peace might lean closer to a plausibility. To those who believe the state of Israel is the very same as the Israel of the Old Testament, I ask you to keep an open mind. Should it turn out that you have made a false identification, then you would be supporting a political entity masquerading as the chosen people of God, and have sanctioned military action, in part, because of this successful masquerade. Even should you remain unconvinced, it is prudent to make yourself aware of differing opinions, especially when our country’s media has so firmly taken one side.
